Since 2022, the Societal and Economics Research Applications (SERA) Working Group of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) under WMO has been convening the Weather & Society Conference. The aim of the conference is to bring together NMHSs, the research community, and user sectors to exchange case studies and experiences that support progress toward the global goal of Early Warnings for All.

Extreme hydrometeorological events are impacting societies, economies, and the environment at levels unseen in human history. Government agencies, scientists, and decision makers are facing an unprecedented challenge in managing these extremes and reducing risks for citizens. To respond effectively, weather and climate services must engage in sustained dialogue, build mutual understanding, and mobilize all available resources to provide information that supports sound decision making.
