We are pleased to share the third issue of the ESMO Brief. With 2026 underway, the community is strengthening coordination across WCRP activities, sharpening scientific priorities, and building the partnerships and infrastructure needed to deliver robust, actionable climate information.

In this issue

  • Community-building highlights, including the ESMO SSG and WGORC kick-off meeting in Reading (8–12 December), which helped reinforce ESMO’s agenda on strengthening links between climate modelling and observations and set directions for WGORC’s work.

  • A capacity-building spotlight from the APARC/WCRP AI4Climate School at AIMS Senegal, focused on AI for climate and weather forecasting.

  • Momentum around data, prediction, and evaluation, including a review of the webinar series on data-driven climate prediction from subseasonal to interdecadal timescales, alongside other updates such as new work on optimal meteorological station placement and the availability of the WGNE Blue Book 2025.

  • A research highlight on how people encounter and engage with science information, drawing on global evidence across 68 countries (“science information diets”).

  • Opportunities to get involved, including the call for abstracts for the S2S2D Conference 2026 (7–11 September 2026, Reading; deadline 15 February 2026).
